Emergency Procedure

Prepared, responsive and resilient โ€” protecting life, the environment and property across every operation.

1. Purpose & scope

This procedure provides a clear, structured response to all types of emergencies including fire, explosion, chemical spills, equipment failure, structural collapse, toxic release and medical emergencies across all design, manufacturing and site operations.

2. Emergency organization & roles

  • Incident Controller (IC): leads and coordinates the response, assesses the situation and decides on escalation, communication and plant/process shutdowns.
  • Emergency Response Teams: designated teams for fire-fighting, medical rescue, engineering/repair, communication and security, each with a leader and backup.
  • Assembly Point Monitors: ensure all staff are accounted for at designated assembly points.
  • Communication Officer: maintains internal and external communications and liaises with emergency services.

3. Immediate response actions

  • Raise the alarm: anyone discovering an emergency activates the nearest alarm, alerts co-workers and contacts the Incident Controller.
  • Shut down operations: safely halt high-risk work, follow shutdown SOPs and isolate energy sources.
  • Evacuate: non-essential personnel use the nearest safe route to the assembly area; routes and exits are kept marked and unobstructed.
  • Assembly & headcount: monitors conduct a headcount, identify missing persons and report to the Incident Controller.

4. Specialized emergency responses

  • Fire: the team uses appropriate extinguishers and PPE and, if safe, contains the fire while others evacuate and the affected zone is isolated.
  • Chemical spills / leaks: isolate the area, use spill control kits and PPE, ventilate, and notify emergency services for hazardous materials.
  • Injury / medical: call first aiders and arrange immediate medical support; do not move severely injured people unless exposed to hazards.

5. Communication & coordination

  • Use PA systems, radios and alarms for quick alerts.
  • Appoint a liaison to coordinate with public emergency services.
  • Identify and communicate safe areas, hazards and emergency contacts throughout the premises.

6. Essential equipment & facilities

  • Maintain and inspect fire extinguishers, spill kits, first-aid boxes, emergency lighting, alarms and PPE.
  • Clearly mark exits, emergency showers, eyewash stations and assembly points.
  • Store emergency plans, evacuation maps and contacts at key locations.

7. Training, drills & continuous improvement

  • Conduct regular drills to verify readiness, review procedures and reinforce training.
  • Review and update the plan after each drill, incident or operational change.
  • Maintain written records of drills, incidents, corrective actions and reviews.

8. Documentation

All actions, notifications, evacuations, headcount results, equipment use, injuries and communications during emergencies are recorded in an Emergency Incident Log, alongside up-to-date lists of emergency contacts, equipment locations and response team members.
